2022 Property Tax Billing

Beginning with tax year 2022, the City of Dacula will start billing and collecting property taxes. City taxpayers will receive two (2) tax statements. You should receive your Gwinnett County tax statement prior to your City tax statement. If you do not receive these statements or have any questions, please contact the City Tax Clerk via email or by phone at 770-963-7451.

On July 7, 2022, the Mayor and Council passed a Resolution to send out property tax bills on October 1, 2022 with a due date of December 1, 2022.

Important Information Regarding Your Tax Bill
Any back taxes owed to the City or County will not appear on this bill. Please contact City Hall regarding back taxes due the City and the County Tax Commissioner’s office to inquire about back taxes due the County. Interest is added monthly to delinquent tax bills. The interest rate changes yearly in January and is based on the bank prime loan rate as posted by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in statistical release H. 15 or any publication that may supersede it, plus 3 percent, as mandated by O.C.G.A. 48-2-40. A 5% penalty is added to the remaining balance 120 days after the due date. After that, an additional 5% is added onto the outstanding balance after every 120 days, with the total penalty not to exceed 20%. If taxes are left unpaid, a lien will be filed on the property 120 days after the due date. The lien will be filed in the owner’s name as of January 1. If you recently sold the property, it is your responsibility to forward the tax bill to the new owner.

Sanitation Fee
The City of Dacula provides weekly garbage and bi-weekly recycling collection services. This fee will appear on your bill if applicable.

General Information
The amount of property taxes you pay depends on the assessed value of your property, which is value of the property as determined by the County's Tax Assessor multiplied by the assessment ratio of 40%. Any applicable city property tax exemptions are subtracted from the assessed value for the total taxable value of your property. The total taxable value is multiplied by the city's millage rate which is set annually by the City Council.

        Example:                                    $250,000 (home value)
                                                                 X 40%
                                                            $100,000
                                                                  4.806

PUBLIC NOTICE – TAX INCREASE

Every few years, the Gwinnett County Tax Assessor is required to review the assessed value of property in the county. When the trend prices of properties that have recently sold in the county indicate there has been a change in the fair market value of such property, the Tax Assessor may adjust the value of the real property located in Gwinnett County. This process is known as property reassessment.

The Dacula Mayor and Council has carried out a deliberate strategy over the last several years to keep City taxes low without negatively impacting the quality of the City services provided to its citizens. By adopting a millage rate of 4.806, which is the same as last year, the City of Dacula must advertise a tax increase.

The Mayor and Council of the City of Dacula, Georgia has tentatively adopted a 2022 millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 3.35 percent. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at Dacula City Hall, 442 Harbins Road, Dacula, GA on June 20, 2022 at 10 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase are at Dacula City Hall, 442 Harbins Road, Dacula, GA on July 7, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 4.806 mills, an increase of .156 mills. Without this tentative increase, the millage rate will be no more than 4.650 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $250,000 is approximately $14.51 and the proposed tax increase for nonhomestead property with a fair market value of $275,000 is approximately $17.16.
