FAQs

  • Any back taxes owed to the City or County will not appear on this bill. Please contact City Hall regarding back taxes due the City and the County Tax Commissioner’s office to inquire about back taxes due the County. Interest is added monthly to delinquent tax bills. The interest rate changes yearly in January and is based on the bank prime loan rate as posted by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in statistical release H. 15 or any publication that may supersede it, plus 3 percent, as mandated by O.C.G.A. 48-2-40. A 5% penalty is added to the remaining balance 120 days after the due date. After that, an additional 5% is added onto the outstanding balance after every 120 days, with the total penalty not to exceed 20%. If taxes are left unpaid, a lien will be filed on the property 120 days after the due date. The lien will be filed in the owner’s name as of January 1. If you recently sold the property, it is your responsibility to forward the tax bill to the new owner.

  • Your tax bill is not a scam. The City of Dacula began billing its own property taxes in 2022. If you review your county tax bill, it indicates the City is billing its own property taxes starting 2022.

  • The bounced check fee is $10. A returned check may result in your taxes being late, which could lead to additional fees and penalties.

  • The City does accept partial payments, and taxpayers are welcome to make as many payments as needed to pay off the balance; however, penalties and interest continue to accrue on the outstanding balance. Any account with an outstanding balance will be subject to a lien; therefore, the City encourages full payment of any outstanding balance as soon as possible. Any taxes remaining unpaid at this time are subject to levy and tax sale. The County Tax Commissioner's Office follows legal procedures prescribed by the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A) when levying property. We strongly suggest you read those sections of Georgia law which pertain to tax executions and tax sales. OCGA Title 48 - Revenue and Taxation, Chapter 3 - "Tax Executions," and Chapter 4 - "Tax Sales," contain important information that you must be aware of.

If your payment is late, the following interest and penalty will be added to the balance you owe:

    • Interest will be accrued at the rate prescribed by law monthly that a balance remains
    • Five percent (5%) penalty will be added to any remaining balance every 120 days until reaching the max of 20%

  • It is your responsibility to forward a copy of your tax bill to your mortgage company.

    • Cash - in person only
    • Check - made payable to the City of Dacula (if possible, please return your remittance slip and include your Parcel ID number on your check)
      • E-checks are also an option with additional fees.

  • Current year (2023) property taxes are due on December 1, 2023. For prior year property taxes, please contact Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner's Office.

  • Prior to 2022, your county and city taxes were combined on one tax bill. Now, the City of Dacula will begin billing Real and Personal Property Taxes and Sanitation Fees. As such, you will receive a bill from Gwinnett County for any money owed to them.

  • On July 7, 2022, the Mayor and City Council voted on a $6 per month increase in sanitation fees due to the rising cost of fuel, tipping fees, labor, and equipment maintenance. This increased fee will start on October 1, 2022.
