So I'm reading the article in today's Gwinnett Daily Post about the county looking to sell the Lawrenceville airport. Here's the article if you missed it -
I'm wondering what kind of impact this is going to have on Dacula. I guess there could be some benefits to having commercial flights available, close to here, and not having to go all the way to Hartsfield. But I'm just thinking of a whole lot more negative impacts in this that vastly outweigh the positives - Increasing the air traffic over our heads with commercial traffic would kindof be like turning the small county road, that runs right through a town, into an interstate.
Just curious to see what others in Dacula thought - since we are directly in the flight path.

What ever happened to Government By the People For the People?
Let think about whats happening in Gwinnett.
1. People wanted to slow down growth (residential and commercial). No government officials listened, and these folks spent rainy day money because they thought..."Build it they will come...we will have tax money". We all know what happened and now we have massive layoffs and cutbacks. Of course, Bannister thinks this all ok. and not his fault.
Lets not even talk about the shady land deals that we are all suffering for as well.
2. We now have forced trash pick up. Who wanted that...??? I as well as many of us in Dacula pay for trash pick up and recycling. But because of the few losers who will not pay or take trash to the dump we all suffer because the county forces this on us.
3. Sugarloaf Ext. Now while this is a good idea...shouldn't the bright leaders of this county opt to put the roads in before Subdivisions were made in the path of this roadway? Hundreds of people have been displaced and current property owners land has been drastically reduced because of this failure to plan for the future of Gwinnett County. And folks.....part of the extension runs right through Dacula near old peachtree. (Runs through subdivsions Ivey Chase, and few others)
Our leaders say....OH that is way off in the future... just like the airport. I don't believe it!!! The first part is already built and they are now working the Buford/Suwanne portion off of Old Peachtree and Lawrenceville/Suwanee Rd.
The county leaders need to stop hurting the people for a buck!!
I understand the need for a strong tax base, however, that could have been achieved by moderate residential growth. Instead these bozo leaders went for broke and we now all suffer.
This out of control government is bashing us over the head.
This is not what government is supposed to be........!!!!!

Think things are bad now? Just wait and see if we get Roy Barnes for a 2nd time
He is pro airport so to protect his prized Cobb County and not to mention he just about killed the state during his last "ONE and Thank God DONE" tenure.
The other thing that scares the bejesus out of me is granted, this group in the County now have done enough damage but God help us all if we let emotions overrun logic and end up electing a group of currupt goons that are equal to Fulton or DeKalb County then we will be toast.

I sure hope the airport does not expand. I would like to think we all whould be brought into the process via ballot if it is to be seriously considered. But then, that would be in a perfect world... I say vote em all out every chance we get.

I'm against the proposed airport and share the concerns of all the folks who actually live around it. There will be considerably more noise and traffic, and the quality of life around here will, in a word, suck. As far as any of us actually having a say in the matter, I laugh at that. Let me put two words into your heads, "Emminent Domain". If the government around here wants it that bad nothing we as taxpaying citizens can do about it. I believe our illustrious leaders have proven time and time again that they really don't listen to us. |

I am not really for the airport. I live near it, so I am not a big fan of the extra congestion and noise that it will bring, but I have a hard seeing this defeated. First, Atlanta really needs a second airport, and Second, the money it will bring in is enormous. I just have a hard time seeing the commissioners as a whole turning down this kind of money.
It could be done nicely, which while I don't want the airport, if it does come, I hope they do it nicely. I am not sure how many people have been to the Greenville/Spartanburg airport in Greenville, SC, but if they could put it together like that airport, I think it will be much more bearable.

Dgszweda.....I hear you...but its sad. Sad that many people feel just like you do....
In this world, its all about money. Not whats good for all...just whats good for some.
These politicians also thought it was a great idea to allow the builders to cut down tree's and build homes and strip malls like there was not tomorrow. How did that work out for the tax base?
See...government does not have all of the answers. They do what they want to do...they do not do what they are supposed to do which is work and get things done on behalf of the people who elect them. They do what they want based on who is going to grease their palms.
We the people suffer because of it.
People need to go grab those signs that say No Airport Expansion and stick them in their front yard. When there are prostests....be out there to let thse idiots know that we will not stand to have our property values go lower, quality of life suffer and have to listen to 737's at all hours of the day and night.
I did not buy my home in a quiet neighborhood to allow government to kill a great way of life. No one in the path of this airport should.
Stop being zombies and get out there...!!!! Wake up and stop letting these Gwinnett County Morons ram project after project down our throats.
Trash, roadway projects, sweethart land deals.....and who gets screwed in the end. WE DO.....!!!
Why does our government never listen to us? Because we are not loud enough!!!
No monetary gain to the county should allow these few bozo's to hurt a majority like these officials have over the last 7 yrs.
People need to get the word out and be vocal.
This airport project cannot happen!

I'm not sure how many people really know what is going on at the airport. Propeller CO. that wants to take over the airport is going to turn this into a giant airport. Southwest Airlines is going to be flying out of this airport, not just little business jets and commuter planes.
The community, Dacula, Lawrenceville, Grayson, Auburn, Duluth and Suwanee will all be greatly affected by this. The runways will have to be expanded, closing Cedars Rd. All surrounding traffic will have to be upgraded by Gwinnett taxpayers. The flightplans will have low flying holding patterns all over Gwinnett. This is a horrible idea and our BOC is totally out of touch with the communities they were elected to represent

Hang on a sec...that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Any time we can get some competition for Delta, we can benefit.
This may be the case of what is good for some, is not always good for all, but if any of you think I really care about any of my neighbors, you obviously don't watch South Park. Next think you know, there will be people wanting to get paid based on their needs, not on their ability.
